Finals Day: Results

Another successful Finals Day for Denby Dale Tennis Club. The weather was cloudy but the rain held off and conditions were ideal for playing, if a little cool for spectators.

In the morning the Ladies Final saw Carly Hoyle playing multiple champion Karen Seddon. It was a closely-fought battle which went on for nearly two hours. Carly eventually emerged as the winner after two tie-break sets – 7-6, 7-6.

In the men’s doubles final Stewart Clarke and Kenny Giles lost the first set to Jared Wood and Richard Tuddenham but went on to SAVE SIX MATCH POINTS and win the next two sets to claim victory 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.

In the afternoon Men’s Singles Final, Richard Tuddenham faced Alex Harris in another three-setter. Despite losing the first set 6-1 to Alex, Richard took the second set 7-5 and then the third set 6-4 to become the Men’s Singles Champion.

Karen Seddon and Stewart Clarke were in action again in the Mixed Doubles. They faced Lisa Redfern and John Hoyle. Another exciting three-setter with Lisa and John eventually winning through 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

The final match, the Ladies Doubles also had Karen Seddon appearing, this time partnering Karen Quartermain. They were playing Carly Hoyle and Helen Sansom. The first set was neck and neck until Carly and Helen pulled away to win 6-3. In the second set Carly and Helen took control and won 6-1 to claim the Ladies Doubles title.

Congratulations to all the finalists.

A large number of spectators came along to watch the matches and to enjoy the excellent buffet lunch.

The break for lunch gave the opportunity for the achievements of the Junior and Intermediate teams to be recognised by medal presentations and for the winners of the D Section to be awarded their trophy. Well done to all team members. The team coach, Sharon Haddock could not be there as she was recovering from a foot operation but her contribution to the teams’ success was recognised. Thank you Sharon.

Thanks to Judith Mottram for organising the draw and to Sally Hoyle for organising the catering and the junior/intermediate medals. And thanks to all who contributed to another successful Finals Day.
